Ok I have a Toshiba laptop and the screen is completely busted. I can't see what I am doing at all. Is there a way that I can view the busted laptop screen on another laptop?

You should be able to add a CRT monitor using the VGA port at the rear or side of the Toshiba.

Then you can configure the BIOS to change the start up monitor to CRT only, Run a USB, bluetooth or wireless keyboard and mouse, then hide the laptop away under the table somewhere!

In fact, go into the laptops OS power settings in the control panel and configure it to remain on when the lid is closed......beautiful!

I have figured out how to connect my dell monitor to my laptop and view it on there but I was hoping that I would be able to view it on this Toshiba laptop instead (the non-busted Toshiba). I got this laptop so I could get rid of the big bulky tower & monitor (it takes up so much damn room on my desk aha even with just the monitor up there).

So basically my question is, would I be able to view the broken computer screen on this screen, and then just click or go back and forth between screens? Possibly by using a male to male wire and just hooking that into the back of the broken laptop and the back of my regular laptop?

You could use Remote Desktop to view the busted lappy from the good one, but you would need to disable it to begin viewing the good laps screen again!

If space is an issue your probably better off buying a cheap, small LCD and then using a VGA to DVI adaptor.

Another option would be to network the 2 laptops with either a crossover cable or utilizing the network adaptors for an 'ad hoc' network setup enabling you to share resources between notebooks.

If I use remote desktop, lets say that I want to download a song/video/etc to the busted one, will it download to that or the one that I am controlling it with?

It will download to the busted one because in effect, you are actually controlling the busted laptop remotely (from a remote location....namely the good laptop).

Oh sweet, could you help me set it up? I am completely clueless about that stuff :\ Like what programs I need to install on what computer, etc...

The non-broken one is running on Windows Vista and the broken one is running on Windows XP.

Always glad to help and the good thing is, you dont need to install any programs as remote desktop is a service native to windows!

Its just a matter of configuring both laptops windows settings and your good to go.

Since you will be using Vista to connect remotely to the XP machine, take a look at this excellent guide on youtube that will help you get things set up!

Thank you so much! I got it all up and running now but I just have one last quick question. Say I download something to the busted laptop while using remote desktop...if it has a virus in the file, can it cause problems for the good laptop as well?

I have this one covered.

Unless the two machines are connected on network (remote desktop is not a network per say) and a virus in question has network code written into it.

So even if they are on a network, you'd have to contract the right type of malware for it to spread through networks.
Conficker for example has network code written in it.

But honestly, malware writers don't really use network spreaders anymore due to more and more malware spreading via USB sticks because it goes un-noticed (unless the machines AV notices it) but even that is useless is the autorun is activated by just entering the drive.
