I have been having issues getting a connection when hardwired to my network.

I have no problems connecting through the wireless connection.

When connecting using the ethernet cable I am able to:

Ping internet addresses
Trace RT through to the internet with a fixed ip adress
It shows connected, with limited access
Partly works with a static ip address

It will not let me pick a DHCP address

I have been using this computer, with this particular OS installed for over a year now, and suddenly been presented with these issues.

My Windows has come up as being not genuine, but this is false.
I have tried to a repair using the disc, but I am only presented with the option of a fresh install, whereas on previous occasions, I have seen an option to do a repair.

I have done full scans, using MBAM, SuperAntiSpyware. Spyware Blaster is up to date, and my Eset is fully up to date, with no infections shown after a scan.
I have even scanned using Sophos.

I know the issue is not hardware related, as I have loaded another disk on the same laptop, and with no issues.

I have also done a sfc scan, with no issues. I've renewed my ip address too, reset the router.

I'm stumped!

Any ideas?

Did you manage your Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) in past ?

Hi,
Did you know that you have to manually set IP Address on Computer with Internet Connection available, and 2nd computer which is connected to main need to be "Obtain IP address automatically". Everything else is fine, as I can read from post above.

Nazzgull

I am aware of that..

But it is set up for DHCP address here.

All 4 of my other computers are set up exactly the same here, and with no issues whatsoever.

I can only think of a piece of software that maybe causing the problem, or possibly a rootkit? I can't visit all websites normally, I get redirected on some Google searches too, when the page actually loads. It doesn't happen every time though, (through wireless)

Can it be to do with my Windows OS showing as not genuine? Surely that couldn't terminate my internet access?

Regards
Dave

Hi Dave,

  • Start > Run > CMD

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

  • Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

Hi

This still hasn't foxed the issue.

When clicking the Network/internet access icon in the taskbar, it comes up with

No internet access
Unidentified Network

The exclamation mark is still over the network icon

Will it help if I give a report of some kind from another computer to compare the two?
I have a fresh install on another laptop of the same OS

I know a fresh install would be the easiest option, but, it's taken time to get my laptop setup exactly how I want it.

Regards

It's normally to see Unidentified Network, I had same with my LAN connectivity with Windows XP. But that thing with No Internet Access is our main problem.

Would you mind to turn router off from power, turn off modem, and unplug all cables, turn off all your PCs, and wait about 5 minutes before plugging all again. Disable connections before last step.

It might be a router issue or cable maybe, lets begin from that. Because it looks like you don't have software problem.

Hi there

I have done all that, still to no avail. It's as if no connection what so ever can be detected, through the ethernet.
The troubleshooter doesn't detect any problem either.

It has to be something on my disk, because when I put a different disk in on this same laptop, there is no issue what so ever. I orginally thought my network adapter may be faulty.

Regards

Edit: Now, I have no connection, not even limited connection as previously, at the start of my dilemma!

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : missing!

You probably didn't configure it well. Try to set Gateway manually in your Internet and Connection page.

Hi

I may wrong, but with me using DHCP, i've never never needed to set the gateway or other such settings. I've always set it to discover the addresses automatically.

I have tried to set up a unique static IP address, and I do get limited connectivity..

Ah, right, I always forget you're doing DHCP, and not only LAN..

Please read article from bellow:

This also, it might help you to solve a problem.

I've installed the RSAT tools, and set the router option in the DHCP Scope options as mentioned in that post, still to no avail.

I've booted in safe mode with networking and still no joy.

I tried booting with a linux disk, and I have no problems.

So it must some kind of software issue, rather than incorrect settings, well I think, either that or I have a nasty infection, one that's deeper in the system, that my usual programs haven't detected.

This has happened in the past. Is there any chance this could be moved to the malware forum, and have somebody check it over, possibly for some kind of rootkit?

I've exhausted all options I can think of, and on the advice you have given me.

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for letting me know. We can not be sure what is it, but you should open a new post in Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal forum.
Let them more space, we already made 2 pages of this topic 😉

It could be a malware, but it is also possible that you're Windows installation is bad.

Thanks for all the assistance.

Just an update, I tried connecting again in Safe mode with networking after the last changes I made, I can now connect, with no issues.

So I don't know if this will help in anyway to solving the issue.
