my email photos are opening in media player and distorted

Latley when I send an photo by hotmail,and check sent to see what turned out ,the photos open in media player ,they didnt used to ,but I probably pushed some wrong buttons. they come out either a quarter of the page (1/4 of the scene ) and the rest all lines and/or less and distorted .I sent myself a photo to see what would happen and it does it on the receiving end too.
There probably settings to correct this but I dont know them . Can you help ? Thanks Neil

ps I want to get rid of windows media player alltogether .I use videolan instead...how can I delete the whole thing?
