dvd burner will not burn with sony 16x dvd-r's

hey, i have a NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A that will read but not write to sony 16x dvd-r's, other brand seem to both read and write correctly. nero and other burning software tell me that the media is incompatible.

is there a way to make my dvd drive burn to these discs?

oh, btw, its in a dell latitude d510 laptop and has been flash to what is as far as i can tell the latest firmware 203E.

Looks like there is others like your experiencing the same problem. Since your burner's firmware is updated, I think the problem lies in NEC which didnt fix the problem properly as it cant even detect it as a DVD burner in the first place.
