Windows Vista will not update Error code 8000FFFF

I have been upable to update Windows for over a year. Everytime I try to update, I get the error 8000FFFF. I then followed with a registry cleaner, which did not help either and only gave me the same error code.
I'm at a loss on what to do. I would appreciate your help!!
