Windows Movie Maker

Ok I'm making a project for something I have to do in school.

I recorded the video on a handheld camera. Brought it to my computer in MOD format and I could hear the audio on it fine. Transferred it to AVI format so it would work with Windows Movie Maker and I can no longer hear the audio?

I don't know the fix for it
