Hi, I've recently tried to install a new HDD (WD Black 1 TB) and a new vid card ATI Radeon HD 3850. When I try to boot and install XP I'm getting the msg Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk and press enter.

Before I was getting "PXE-E53: No Boot Filename Received." However I went into BIOS and disabled the OnChip LAN Controller and I'm now getting "Disk Boot failure, insert system disk and press enter."

When I check in BIOS it seems the HD and my CD Rom are both being detected (They both come up). My initial feeling is that my CDRom is failing, but could it also be that I've gotten a dead HD? If anyone can help me with the Disk Boot Failure problem I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hello,

Check that in the BIOS the first boot device is USB.

Did you want me to put USB as the 1st boot device, or check to see if it's listed as the 1st boot device? Thanks.

I have 3 options. USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, and USB-CDROM. Which one do I use? The CD ROM one? Thanks.

I changed the 1st boot device to USB-FDD.

Here is the order I have it in now in my bios:
1) USB-FDD
2) Hard Drive
3) CD ROM

I saved the changes and tried to boot and I'm still getting the same message.

"Boot From CD :

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

Is this a sign of my CDROM failing or HD? They both come up in bios especially the HD when I tried to detect it.

Hello,

A disk boot failure occurs when the computer can't read the hard disk with Windows on it. Switch the first boot device back to "Hard Drive" and make sure your hard drive is properly connected.

I'm installing a new HD, I recently purchased a WD Black 1 TB drive. As far as I know the drive should be empty. I'll double check my connections and switch the first boot device to the HD.

I checked the wires, and they seemed to be on properly. I changed the boot options again and made the HD #1 and still no luck. What I'm wondering is why the boot cd isn't working. Could it mean that my CD Rom is failing? It was having a difficult time picking up dvds before I tried to install the new HD and Vid Card.

I plugged in one of the CD ROM drives from one of my older machines and it seems to be going fine now, thanks for all the advice.
