About a year ago my CD burners decided to stop working. The drives themselves work, but the burners do not. I have 2, so this is why I am assuming it is a software problem and not a hardware problem since they both stopped working at once. I have tried to update the drivers, but can't find any drivers newer than what I have.

For software I use Nero (can't find a version number) and Windows Media Player, both with the same results. I can set everything up for a burn session and then put in the disc. After a few moments I am alerted that the burn failed and it ruins the disc so that it is unusable. This happens with both drives. I have an ATAPI CD-RW 52XMax and HL-DT-ST Rw/DVD GCC-4481B according to my device manager. Any ideas? Thanks!

What speed do you burn at? It is usually best to burn at speed 4x

I've tried virtually every speed with the same results.

If the drives work perfectly for every other function then its most probably a software issue with Nero!

Can you give me the version number and also, if Nero fails the burn, does it offer to save the error log?

If so, please post it....burn error logs come in handy when trying to sort out burning issues.

Also please post the serial number contained within the first few lines of the burn log.

Regards

The Nero version is 6.3.1.17 Gateway. I discovered I can run a "Simulation" burn and that works fine. When I try a real burn it always fails. It offers no error log. I did, however, find a history log. The last entry that failed looks like this:

3 magic words that solve everything. Understand that I know just enough to turn on my computer and type my name. Could you be a little more specific? If it were as easy as just updating something I would have solved this more than a year ago. Thanks.
