Lost Ethernet Connection

Got back after a long weekend and found no internet connection. Upon reboot I got the "Found New Hardware" balloon. Then a pop up window that says:
The software you are installing for this hardware:
intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection
has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatability with Windows XP.

Then another popup that says:
Can not start this hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware

intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection
This hardware is not configured correctly. (code 1)

I copied that link and it took me to Cnet but when I clicked "download" it gave me "page not available"

Finally figured it out. The NIC chip on the motherboard is bad.
