Have Wireless Connection But Can't Connect To IE

I have a Dell Mini laptop that my friend gave me about a week ago so all I have is the laptop itself and the charger. It has wireless connection and I can connect to Linksys Wireless Network but when I click on the Internet Explorer icon, it loads but says that it can't display the webpage. I had a friend look at it and they told me the internet could have been deleted. He says it will connect with a phone line but not wirelessly. And Linksys works perfectly on my desktop. I'm clueless when it comes to computer tech and i wouldn't know where to begin trying to fix this problem..

Hello,

Please start Internet Explorer, and when the program is open, click on the Tools menu and then select Internet Options.

• Now click on the Connections tab and then the Lan Settings button
  
• Under the Proxy Server section, please uncheck the checkbox labeled Use a proxy server for your LAN.
  
• Click the OK button to close this screen. Then press the Apply button and then the OK button to close the Internet Options screen. Now that you have disabled the proxy server you will be able to browse the web again with Internet Explorer.

If it doesn't work, open CMD, Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart your PC.

If it doesn't work, download Winsock XP Fix from here, save it to your Desktop.

Double click on the exe on your Desktop.
Press the "Fix" button, then restart again.

See if you can connect now.

The CMD did the trick. I'm so excited that I have internet on my laptop again. Thanks for your help.
