Hello,

Currently i am traveling and staying in a lot of places with wireless internet. I can connect to the internet by using firefox, bbrowsing is not a problem. But all other programs dont have acces to internet. My virusscanner cannot update, it says internetconnection failed (avira free antivirus), i have a uploader for flickr pictures but it cannot connect as well. I recently downloaded a program for downloading World of Warcraft (legal from their site! ) but it failes as well. When im downloading something directly via the browser (saving pictures, downloading programs) that is working good.
I am a computernoob, i dont know where to look for. I tried to disable the firewall but it didnt work.

I have a Asus netbook with windows xp.
I hope you can help me, posted a hyjack report below if it is of any use.

Hello.

The connection problem is probably this proxy that has been set.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7070

Your computer has (or had) multiple infections, including a backdoor. A backdoor gives intruders complete control of your computer, logs your keystrokes, steal personal information, etc.

You are strongly advised to do the following:

  • Disconnect the computer from the Internet and from any networked computers until it is cleaned.
  • Back up all your important data except programs. The programs can be reinstalled back from the original disc or from the Net.
  • Call all your banks, financial institutions, credit card companies and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and put a watch on your accounts. If you don't mind the hassle, change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change all your passwords (ISP login password, your email address(es) passwords, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, Amazon, online groups and forums and any other online activities you carry out which require a username and password).
Do NOT change your passwords from this computer as the attacker will be able to get all the new passwords and transaction records.

I see that you are running OrbitDownloader.
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

If OrbitDownloader is not removed, then I won't help you.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

  • OrbitDownloader
  • Java 6 update 3

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7070
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [realtecss] "C:\Documents and Settings\Thomas\Application Data\Google\phtrc345015.exe" 2
    O23 - Service: NFAgent - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\system\smss.exe (file missing)

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet explorer and/or in FireFox.

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"

Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

after this i still cannot use internet for updating my virusscanner or the world of warcraft downloader. Ill post another hyjack file in the next post. I couldnt update the Mbam because it has the same problem that it cannot connect to the internet.
On other thing, dont know if it is worth mentioning, if i start firefox to browse a windows screen pops up asking me to connect to different connections. If i cancel that my internet works.

Hello.
In that second Hijack This log, you've gone back to using 1.9.9.1. Delete that and use 2.0.2.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.

Lets try the fix in safe mode.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7070
    O23 - Service: NFAgent - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\system\smss.exe (file missing)

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

@echo off
sc config "NFAgent" start= disabled
sc stop "NFAgent"
sc delete "NFAgent"
del fix.bat
exit

Save this as fix.bat, save it to your desktop.
Double click fix.bat and the black cmd window will open and close, this is normal.

Both fixed it and started up in savemode. After using the fix.bat i got a map on my desktop named "backups".
After this i still cannot update my virusscanner. I used Mbam after it as well, but it didnt found anything.

So far thanks for the help and language i can understand plus the step by step description.

Sorry, forgot this step. Open Grin
