Loss of External Harddrive

Hey,

Yesterday when I was switching some sockets I on mistake, turned off the computer and everything else connected to it. Similar things have happened before but this time, my harddrive seems to have taken some damage which really pisses me off since I have everything on it. This is a Western Digital External harddrive with 750 gb space.

The problem that occurs is that the computer becomes slow and I can't access the harddrive and it says something about if I want to format it and I certainly does not want to do that. I believe that the computer knows it's there because it's pretty much all of the time visible even if it takes some time and it makes that common sound everytime I plug it in.

If you want further information I'll be happy to send you it but please be quick I really need it!

EDIT: This is the error I found when I scanned the drive.

Hello,

There's nothing you can do, unfortunately. You can send it to WD and ask for a replacement.

Doc, I have a suggestion...
How about opening the drive by using Run Cmd?
if the drive opens he could take a backup of the data before replacing or formatting

descriptionLoss of External Harddrive EmptyRe: Loss of External Harddrive

Not sure if it will work, but it's always worth a try.

descriptionLoss of External Harddrive EmptyRe: Loss of External Harddrive

Is it possible to open it manually and insert it in an other harddrive?

I it will be hard to replace it as I can't find the guarantee, nor do I believe that it's still available for use.

descriptionLoss of External Harddrive EmptyRe: Loss of External Harddrive

The best option i suggest is that you take a back up of all your Important Data and Format the external hard drive

To access your External Hard drive
Go to RUN
Type in "H:" without quotes
(H: is the Drive of the External Hard disk, might differ on your computer)
and see whether your disk is accessible or not.
If yes, take a back-up of all Data and Format the Hard disk..

Sapphire Radeon is universally called Sapphire Radeon, but the currency and price Differs?
Also the Configuration also depends, that's the reason i asked for the specification which allows to compare the prices, which would need much more than Just the name of the Graphic card

This may be long winded, but may serves as a guide to those who wanna DIY your own rig.

PSU :
Its more depend on your liking, but dosnt matter if u wanna build a new rig. IMO, invest on a high efficient + modular/non-modular PSU Cheaper solution can be Andyson, Seasonic, OCZ.If want to go high end, go for cosair HX series(thumbs up). I recommend around 600W< power supply as the upcoming graphic card may tend to consume less power compared to now, even SLI GTX260. Anything that exceed that may not be useless unless you are a gaming fanatic which uses larger monitor which require more graphic power.
(low quality powersupply may cause damage to your hardware during power fluctuations)(Low efficiency power supply may not be able to channel enough power to your hardware as it may be weaken overtime)

MOBO/GRAPHIC :
Its another IMO. weather its Nvidia or ATI, Intel or AMD, it all up to you. For me, i will go for AMD for being reason 1 : Bang for bucks. The current dragon platform undeniably beat Nvidia hands down. With chipset like the newest 780/790/790FX(4 way). Although you would say SLI>Crossfire, but with its onboard graphic chip, its like no others. This is because the graphic chip will not be disabled when you plug a graphic card in but it will accelerate it. I've seen videos of people even using this onboard chip to play one of the latest graphic demanding game in youtube, GTA4 in medium mode. Its very impressive and smart of AMD to buy over ATI unlike Nvidia and Intel struggling to shoot down each other, like the current ion platform and the i5 processors. With 600+W high efficient PSU, u can power up a crossfire platform of the current HD4890 or older ones. For the limitation of using phenom processors is not an issue either. The phenom 2 processors are now on par or even more power compared with the less powerful series of i7 processors. Overall price/performance = value, AMD/ATI combo still leads. If you prefer Nvidia mobo for SLI, i think that it is not worth its price as both amd and intel manufacture crossfire board which tends to be far cheaper than SLI board.

RAM :
Dosnt matter much. DDR2-800/1066 and O.C if required.(depend on mobo chipset)
DDR3 ram supported MOBO :
AMD 780G/790s
INTEL X58
Nvdia 790i

Hardisk :
Very simple, weather SCSI or High RPM, SSD or normal storage is all up to your needs.

CPU fan :
Check your wallet, like the design, see the reviews.(Things like noise and size limitation may be taken into consideration)

Casing :
Cheap : Normal SECC with plenty of holes for airflow will do.
High end : Full aluminum + watercooling/aircool.

MOBO, Casing, PSU
ATX casing -> Midtower/ Fulltower | ATX size PSU or extended ATX size PSU
MATX casing -> Small form factor | most support up to ATX size PSU only

Others : Some small form factor casing may limit the size of you cpu cooler or graphic card, be sure to double check before buying.

My opinion may differ from others and may tend to be bias and please correct any grammatical mistakes/misinformation as i wrote this on the fly.

1st thing u need to know, hot air rises and most probably being pumped out by the psu first. From what I've feel, 2-3 casing fan is ample. Take for example a 120mm fan in the front panel with wire mesh/fan grill pump will air in, you can have 1 80mm fan at the back near the I/O plate so that the air that passes through the cpu fan gets pumped out. You can also get ATI cards with non reference design which pumps air out instead of throwing the hot air in the case. Most probably you will get HIS cards for its factory overclocked and its brilliant cooler. If you wanna speed up the cycle, u can always throw in more fan in the front panel and the back. For cpu fan, get those with more heatpipes or pure copper heatsink. The design of the cpu fan must be able to direct the air to the back of the case, not dispersing it. Also make sure to side cover of the casing is covered as most likely to find holes there as it will destroy the air cycle. Unless you have place a case fan near the cpu fan on the side cover to speed up the cycle, seal it up.

1)The zalman vga cooler will dump the hot air back into the case.
2)CPU and casing fan not an issue.
however :
I dont think you need a zalman vga cooler if you use HIS card or 4870 reference fan and onwards. Idle for HIS is around 50+- degrees.

Secondly, zalman CNPS9700 is undeniably good but im not the fan of it price.

My go :

CPU fan

HIS Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 - http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=444795

Conclusion -> Can be improved. little value in choosen cpu cooler, Zalman = overprice unless you're a zalman fanboy.

Others :

Casing fan dosnt matter much, just need to know that the air inside is constantly being cycled is good enough. Hope you get what i mean.

DX11 ATI cards coming out during july, i advise you to go for cheaper solutions as u might consider to change graphic card soon.

4850X2 or in crossfire? from what i believe, if u dont have an aluminium casing, stick with cooler which fan exhaust the heat out of the casing. By having another additional fan facing the card/s will allow more air molecules to come in contact with heatsink hence allowing heat to be exhale out at a faster rate. This zalman fan will most likely to be warmer as warm air will clot the area first before it rises to the top. Its like recycling warmed air.

No it's not crossfire, it just got the name 'cause it's as good as two cards. And I'm saying it again... this is a computer packet and pretty happy about. The question is if I need more fans to keep it quiet and cool (and if I got the space for it). And I'm not a zalman fan ^^

Just say HD4850X2 or HD 4850 x2, i didnt understand cause u were switching in each post >.> For i dont recommend HD4850X2 but if u insist, the only way is to get super cool -> http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=125240 Able to reach 40+- idle. or the best u can do is place a fan directly in front of the graphic card but i cannot assure it can really keep cool.(FME only - a couple of degree)
Asus have a 4870X2 with tri-fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121294 but i can say it totally destroy the airflow int he case.

After looking at some reviews, the heat level is acceptable. But as i said, heat may slowly clot up if warm air is not being exhaust fast enough, so it may be higher after some time. Another thing is that this card will have audible noise when under load. I suggest u get a HD4890

You said "when under load". So by that, if you bought a good extra fan, it would suddenly turn quiet?

descriptionLoss of External Harddrive EmptyRe: Loss of External Harddrive

InsanityVonMike wrote:

More load => more heat => fan works harder => more noise
1 question, where do you place the extra fan to reduce the heat? The heat is being spread around the card, not 1 way. You can imagine your HD4850X2 in your casing and try to use the convection theory on how to place your fan to maximize heat diverting. If you even suceed doing it, there will be less noise as the fan do not need to work so hard to keep your gpu cool. In additional, your extra fan may add to the noise. Answer : No, it wont suddenly turn quiet as you are at most be able to cut off a few degrees.

Trust me, you will regret buying that. Many people are having headache trying too sell off their HD4xxxX2.

Im fine with the psu but the graphic card is not worthy as its not core 216.
If you wanna use MATX, theres some AMD 790 chipset MATX which i will recommend DFI lanparty JR series. Its only cost afew dollars more then Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L and you get a crossfire board with 2 x pcie2.0 @x8speed equivalent to 2 x PCIE1.0x16 @x16speed, not much loss of speed.
Phenom 2 920 and 940 > Intel Core™️ 2 Quad Q8200 (3dMark06 source:http://www.legitreviews.com/article/896/11/) and only cost afew dollars more but much better overclocking ability.
My recommendation only cost afew bucks more but you will get better results in playing modern games. Remember to get a higher wattage PSU if u intent to SLI or Xfire in the future, PSU is also a investment so think thrice. Im fine with the rest as it is most likely to be a personal preference.

Well, in lower resolutions, u may be able to play crysis in high settings(not ultra)without AA with no problem, any higher resolution may only barely made it through. (our eyes only can see 25fps)(Barely made it through = 30-40fps). Refer to the table.

Tell me about the temperature, sound and how well it will go on ulta high settings. And yes, that's two video cards.

1)Price of 2 x 9800GT = 1 x 260(core 216), rather u get 1 x 216 so u can SLI with another GTX2xx series card.
2)Your motherboard support up to DDR2-PC6400 only, getting a PC8500 and CL7 ram is totally overkill.
3)Get a sata DVD burner instead, IDE cable block airflow.
4)Get HX series of cosair instead, TX series isnt modular nor u need so much of power.(Thumbs up to Cosair HX620)

2X9800GT SLI may beat a single GTX260 by in crysis, but others shows that the GTX260 stays as the winner. In conclusion, its not worth SLI cause u need to have the card of same series to setup a SLI. Which means u cant SLI and 9800GT with any of the GTX2xx. Unlike buying a GTX260, you can SLI with any of the current cards, GTX260, 275, 280, 285, 295.
