hello, I did an online scan using Trend Micro Housecall 6.5, it found mal_otorun1 and said it was infecting autorun.inf which i understand is related to the autorun feature and memory sticks...it could not clean or delete the problem...I also get tons of prompts from comodo about wanting to install global hook
My computer sometimes lets me startup and then i can't click on anything...or sometimes i can and access the internet but if i do a search in my browser and find a result i want to check out and click on it, i am more times than not redirected to some random stupid site having nothing to do with what i was supposed to find! mostly other search type sites or dumb youtube style sites...also my task bar is now looking like an older version of windows..light grey..more block looking than bubbly ....all in all a very annoying few days!!

heres a hjt log

running the scan now.........

i have a few programs i had been told to download from a previous problem...are they safe to delete with a good old 'add/remove programs' removal? combo fix, atf cleaner, smitfraudfix, mbam, and avenger. or are some of them good to keep around?

descriptionMAL_OTORUN1 problem...global hook prompts in comodo...messed up task bar etc. EmptyRe: MAL_OTORUN1 problem...global hook prompts in comodo...messed up task bar etc.

more_horiz
Combofix is too powerful to be trusted if you aren't being supervised by an exprt.
Smitfraudfix is pretty much useless, you don't have a smitfraud infection.

MBAM is a good on demand scanner and ATF-Cleaner is a neat little tool, I would keep both.

The avenger is pretty much the same as Combofix, the avenger is VERY powerful and shouldn't be used without supervision.

Delete Combofix, we don't need it.
Keep the avenger for now, we might need to use it again.

Hello.
Please edit your post and inform the SWI staff that you already are getting help elsewhere, using two or more forums is a waste of helpers time, we are all volunteers and don't get paid for our work.

One file left to get rid of.

2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
c:\windows\system32\gaopdxwmvxgonkcvocytjaoptdoviryhngwyja.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

We need to remove the tools we have used before you go.

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it again.
  • Press the green CleanUp! button.
  • Press Yes cleanup process prompt.
  • It will start cleaning now, and will want to reboot after, please allow it to do so.
  • It will make a log of what it has removed, but I don't need to see the log.
