svchost.exe error

I'm having trouble with a PC at work. svchost.exe is crashing and closing down and the PC takes several attempts to boot up. When it does load, it will stay up for 10 - 15 minutes before it crashes again and goes back to the boot/crash cycle.

It loads fine in safe mode. I've got all the latest windows updates but I'm lost on what to do/look for next.

I have tried a system repair from the Windows CD. It loads the files, reboots and about half way through the setup it reboots. It then tries to reload the setup but just as I see the mouse appear it reboots. It is now stuck in this reboot loop.

Is it a case of trash it and start again?

Not really......Why dont you use a Linux based Live CD to boot from and then move all your data to a safe partition or back up to DVD.

Then you can format and 'Clean Install' XP without the worry.
