I am running Windows Vista Home Edition on a Dell XPS. I restarted my computer today twice, the second time a system repair window popped up and had me repair my computer. Once it found its problems, it restarted itself and brought itself back up to a black screen where only the mouse was visible. Nothing else came up. Since then I haven't been able to bring my system up. Each time I restart the computer it goes back to that black screen where only the mouse is visible. Same goes for screens in all variations of safe mode. If anybody on here can help me it would be amazing, thank you!

Trying to understand what you have done here!

Do you mean that you utilized the startup repair option within windows recovery console?

What are the details relating to the system repair window that popped up?

Yes that is exactly what I did. When I do Startup Repair, it searches and then says that Satrup Repair could not detect a problem.

Can you boot from your install disc and do a full repair install?
