I am running Vista Home Premium SP1 on a desktop with these specs:

Intel Core2 Duo CPU E8500 @ 3.16GHz (2 CPUs)
4GB DDR2 800mHz RAM
320 GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Cache
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB DDR3
Black CMV 5ms 22" Widescreen Monitor
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Motherboard
Coolermaster Centurion 5 with stock 460W PSU

My problem is that the monitor turns off after the boot screen as if no signal is available when using the DVI cable.

I tried using an analog cable with a DVI port adapter on the PC end and standard analog to my monitor and didn't find this issue.

So the problem lies with the digital connection but I don't know how this happened (assuming GPU hardware issue) or if I can fix it at all.
Please someone shed some light on this for me.

What exactly is the problem and how can I fix it??
Thanks in advance

A DVI-I able will not fit in a DVI-D slot. Here are pictures of the two different ports, top is DVI-D (digital). Bottom is DVI-I (digital + analog).

If the DVI-I cable doesn't work, then you need a DVI-D cable.

Try switching around the ports too, some monitors and cards have input/output here and there.

The ports on my video card are the DVI-I as in the image. On my monitor however it is DVI-D.
I have been using, for over 6 months, the DVI-D cable which came with the monitor which physically fits in both ports successfully until recently.
My monitor also has the old analog port (think VGA) which works through the adapter as I described earlier. But with a lower quality as only analog.
I have just noticed that the end adapter for the VGA cable is for DVI-I and so only fits into the video card end.
What should be my next step?

Strange. So, what you mean is all of a sudden it cannot fit into the port?

Ah, sorry mate. I didn't realise I typed that. I meant that the DVI-D connection wasn't working now, just the VGA.
I think I may have discovered a solution. The entire PC has worked at 2 other locations (other houses) perfectly; and since I am running it off a 4 connection surge-protected power board, I considered that it may be faulty. So I moved the monitor plug to another, keeping the tower in the original one as the newer board isn't surge-protected. It appears to be working with no hassles...touch wood Goofy
Do you know how this is possible: could the power board have a problem??
Thanks

Does your monitor connects direct to a socket or via the computer (power supply)?

ps. I didn't get your previous post (too confusing) :tounge:

My monitor is separate, that is direct to the power point.
Thanks for your help and patience. I believe I have sorted the issue to be a malfunction with my powerboard. The surge protector light is still on but seems to have a problem. PC works fine in another.
Thanks a lot
