I'm having the blue screen shut down screen again. I've had trend micro running and updating since my last infection, in addition to spybot running. Monday the computer started acting up again. I tried to return to an old restore point but the problems remain. I then saw the problems with ie and decided to finally switch to firefox and start using outpost. But now everything is a mess, I can't connect to the internet and then the blue screen happens. Here is the hijack this log.

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here, use the top links - combofix.exe
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

    Blue screen again Rcauto10

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

    Blue screen again Whatne10

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

it's stuck on the rebooting windows screen. It's been like this for about 10 minutes. Mouse won't move either.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
Darn, if it's just hanging, reboot your machine the hard way and see if you can still enter your system.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
It went all the way to my screen and combofix came up but then it went to the blue error screen immediately.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
Okay, reboot it again, but this time go to safe mode and see if combofix popups again.

Reboot your machine, and just after the POST beep has finished, start tapping F8 key and you will get the advanced boot menu.
Select "Safe Mode" (Do not choose Safe mode with network support)
This will start the safe mode boot.

The malware should be disabled in safe mode and CF should be able to run.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

It get's me to the screen where it runs through all the multi disk partition ..... and then it locks up and won't go to safe mode.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
Hmmm.
When you get these blue screens, does it tell you why? or give you an error code?

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
It was saying that it had to shut down do to not enough memory to protect the computer. Now it just goes black when I turn it on.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

How much RAM does this machine have?

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
2GB

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
Strange.
Will talk to a friend and see what he comes up with.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
I think it has something to do with Virtual Memory.

Open Control Panel >> System >> Advanced, click Settings in the Performance area. On the Advanced tab, the current total physical size of all page files that may be in existence is shown.

Click Change to make settings for the Virtual memory operation. Here you can select any drive partition and set either Custom, System Managed or No page file. Click Set

See which works without giving a blue screen. Also, Blue screens always give any error code like 0x00000008E

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
I can't all I get now is a black screen after it says Dell at the top in the opening sequence. And when I try to go to safe mode it attempts to then just locks up there too.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
Am I past being able to repair this on my own and need to take it in to a computer repair place?

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
Yes, probably.
If the machine won't boot anymore, there isn't much we can do.

EDIT

Two more ideas.

Try booting again, but press the F8 key to get the advanced menu and try a last known good configuration.

Or if you have an XP repair disc, you can try a repair install.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
I tried the F8 it gets me to the menu still but it stalled out again after I made my choice. The only XP disk I have is the reinstallation cd, I don't see anything that says repair on it.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
Hello.
An install disc might work.

Put it in and boot from disc, then it will give you a few choices.
One of them being "Press "R" for repair"

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
How do I boot from disk?

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
If you have your XP disc, put it in and reboot your machine, it will then try to boot from disc.

descriptionBlue screen again EmptyRe: Blue screen again

more_horiz
Nope as soon as I turned it on I inserted the disk, nothing. I tried turning it off then back on with the disk still in, nothing. It does like it has been doing the first few beginning screens then black.
