I have tried the other antivirus softwares you mentioned above, but I like Kaspersky the best because of it's power disinfection engine. Unlike most other antivirus softwares, Kaspersky disinfects malware instead of deleting it. Some antivirus simply deletes the malware and it keeps coming back.

Best of all, it's light on the system resources, it's only uses less than 2Mb of memory.

Avast also disinfects before deleting, and the advantage with avast is that its got boot time scan {world wide 60m users , no other is closer]. FOOt print wise eset is better, scanning wise kaspersky is better. Its what one likes but its hard to believe avira and kaspersky didnt make it and more surprise is that norton made it.

Norton seem to be catching up from the tests conducted in AV-comparatives.

yes for me its a big surprise as i am not a big time die hard fan of norton, i try to stay away from norton as much as i can. For me its not an antivirus but a virus which kills antivirus. Antivirus comparitives is a biggie to still reveal the results.I am looking forward to all the results this year becoz i want to stick to one antivirus for little longer time, u r lucky as u have enough ram in your system , even if u run all the antiviruses in ur athelon system still the speed shall remain unaffected.

Norton has done more than 300 changes in their virus database engine lately , they started this from mid summer , But jst couple of days back norton also sacked lot of its employees bcoz it was loosing customers globally and couldnt handle the budget for maintainance.

I use norton about six years ago, at that time it seemed that norton was very good and a very outstanding antivirus, then it slipped... now it seems to be catching up again...

anybody knows if norton is still a resource hog?

Is virus bulletin reliable to give such reviews?

Its for you to decide and choose ;
Virus Bulletin is located in the Sophos headquarters in the UK, was co-founded and is currently owned by Jan Hruska and Peter Lammer, the co-founders of Sophos. Virus Bulletin claims to have full editorial independence and not to favour Sophos products in its tests and reviews.

Virus Bulletin is a magazine about the prevention, detection and removal of malware and spam. It regularly features analyses of the latest virus threats, articles exploring new developments in the fight against viruses, interviews with anti-virus experts, and evaluations of current anti-malware products.

Technical experts from all of the major anti-virus vendors have written articles for the magazine, which also conducts indepth comparison tests of the detection rates of anti-virus software. Products which manage to detect 100% of the viruses in the wild, without false alarming, are given the VB100 award.

The magazine holds an annual conference (in late September, early October) which is the premier technical event of the anti-virus industry. Security companies and corporations meet to discuss the latest malware threats and papers presented, in a technical and corporate capacity, regarding industry developments. VB2006 took place 11-13 October 2006 at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, VB2007 was held in Vienna, Austria and VB2008 took take place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. VB2009 and VB2010 will take place in Geneva, Switzerland and Vancouver, Canada respectively.In recent years both magazine and conference have branched out to discuss anti-spam issues as well as malware.

Refer my 1st post and look at the 2nd table, it will give u a better idea to decide whats ideal for u

Hope i answered your question my friend.

Well u have to check with ur local book store for that, mean while let me tell u about virus bulletin;

Virus Bulletin[VB] started in 1989 as a magazine dedicated to providing PC users with a regular source of intelligence about computer viruses, their prevention, detection and removal, and how to recover programs and data following an attack.

Virus Bulletin quickly became the leading specialist publication in the field of viruses and related malware. But the truth is that VB is a very well respected news bulletin for antivirus reviews, similar to AV comparitives.The failure to attain a VB100 award is not a declaration that a product cannot provide adequate protection in the real world if administered by a professional. Editorial independence has always been VB's prime concern. From the very first issue, VB has cut through the hype and remained uninfluenced by vendors' sales pitches and marketing babble. The aim of the magazine is to arm users with all the information they need to stay current with the latest developments in the anti-malware field.VB provides with;
# Thought-provoking news and opinions from respected members of the anti-malware industry.
# Detailed analyses of the latest malware threats.
# Feature-length articles exploring new developments in the fight against malware.
# Interviews with leading anti-malware experts.
# Independent indepth evaluations of current AV products.
# Easy-to-read comparative reviews featuring the unique VB100 award scheme.
# VB Spam Supplement - a monthly magazine supplement covering spam and anti-spam techniques
The similarity is that VB results comes out every 3-4 months same as AV but the biggest final AV comparitive result comes out every year with the top antivirus product being announced. AV testing for any antivirus is done under strict conditions which offers resistance against multiple threats,vulnerabilities and infections. AV is a bigger and larger scale antivirus testing resource than VB . The results of AV and VB can be contradictory because we dnt know what platform and scale they use and the methods they apply internally to test the viruses,trogans,worms,backdoors,root kits,spywares etc.Hope ur confusion is cleared now.
