I haven't done many post on this website but want to first say thanks to everyone for their time spent on these forums as I have used some of your advice in regards to making Firefox run faster and such. BUT I can use your advice at more "personal" level. The other day somehow I left my laptop overnight in sleep mode and when I went to "wake" it up all I could see was an illuminated black screen and nothing happening so I waited a few mins and still nothing happened so I hit ctrl alt delete 2 times to restart and it did and send that windows wasn't shut down properly and that there was an error at start up now there were names to some of the files that the laptop was having issues with and I didn't get to write them down but doing a little google I did the following steps:

Refreshed my Laptop to an earlier time which seems to have worked so far...

The other step I did is sfc /scannow which came back as: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Then I tried to do this step to try and fix the corrupt files:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but that didn't work either

I am trying to avoid a system restore or anything a long those lines and the computer now restarts and boots up Ok but I'd like to fix the corrupt files and/or is best the leave it...

Thank You Again for Your Time Thank You!

First, you could try doing a System restore to a date before that happened. You said you did a Refresh which should have taken the laptop back to the day you purchased it.

I don't have that many restore points availible just one from earlier in the day of when the problem started and another restore point from 3 days prior when a "critical" update was installed now could that update have caused the issue? Also if you can I can do what ever scan to try and figure it out and upload the log files maybe from there someone can see something or go from there... Thanks

It's probably caused by corrupt files. Did you do the Refresh like this?

I did do a refresh although I might try the custom as I don't want to have to re-install all my 3rd party programs... But I guess beggars can't be choosers I was just hoping there'd be another way around it...

So just an update: I did reinstall windows and haven't touched anything yet in terms of software. Ran SFC /scannow first thing and the scan reaches 52% stops and says that its found corrupt files and states where the log file can be found and when I click on the log file says that access is denied...

Also in doing a reinstallation of windows should I be concerned about there being corrupt files on a complete reinstall? Also now the computer start and restarts without any issues so I guess now its the corrupt files concern Me...

How did you do a re-install? From the OS disk?

No my laptop came preinstalled with windows and never came with a disk... Opened that charms menu and went into setting found the recovery menu there and clicked reinstall windows. Is that no good? How can I get a disk?

Ok. I understand now. If you did a re-install then that should have restored your computer back to day one. Perhaps you should contact the maker of the laptop.

Yeah I thought that would've done the trick maybe I'll try again to re-install windows again from scratch and see if that'll do it...

Sorry for the delay but just an update I seemed to have fixed the issue I had to perform - dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth/ fixed the issue

That is good news.
