After restarting my computer when windows update was complete all of my desktop icons disappeared I tried restarting my computer but that did not fix the problem.

What happens in Safe Mode?

I haven't tried safe mode, how can I do that?

Something weird happens when I try to run safe mode my monitor status changes between sources VGA to DVI.

Problem fixed after messing around with some settings in my graphic's card control center my icons reappeared, and everything seems to be working just fine.
