Stuck in the windows screen after power failure

Hi there,

Can anyone assist to the techie wife (as this is way out of my league) ,hubby's l.top is stuck on the Windows start-up and this goes into black screen which then gives the list of -

Start up in safe mode
Safe mode with Net Work
Safe mode with compat
Last Known good config
Start Windows normally

This happened when the laptop was in the middle of a disc clean up and the battery wen dead due to no juice. Laptop is a Del Inspiron 1501

Try the Last Known Good Configuration. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate to the option. If that doesn't work, try Safe Mode.

If you have to, hold the power button on the computer until the machine shuts down. Then you can restart it by tapping the power button.
