cleaning up windows xp laptop

Hi a friend of mine dropped his laptop off to be *made faster* hes got crap all over the place and its running really really slowly

Usually I would just reformat but he has no windows cd, no windows code and no restore points.
are there any programs i can download that will wipe most of the junk out? I already got him to put everything he wanted to keep on an external hard drive.

You can download the program Defraggler here and Ccleaner here, they are all free software. If you wish to find if you have any infected files download Malwarebytes here and your computer should be running more smoothly. If that still does not help, post back and ill walk you through to enabling/disabling features of windows for faster performance.[b]
