Windows vista repair?

All of a sudden my laptop stopped working, an error message telling me about hard disk drive failure displayed and told me to restart. I did so, then after boot, a blank desktop background, no icons on the desktop. and an empty start menu, (only the bits where you can open most used things, the side bit which has Documents, Control Panel, etc is still there) . Then Windows Vista Repair pops up, with numerous hardware problems, such as 83 degrees C RAM temp, which is absurd as the fan isnt even blowing out air higher than 40 degrees... I allowed it to "scan" my system, and then it asked me to buy some obviously scamware product. I could still open the internet, so i downloaded malwarebytes, performed a quickscan, which showed 7 infected objects, it deleted all of them successfully, and then i performed a full scan which found nothing...
I believe my laptop to now be safe, but am performing a scan with microsoft safety scanner just in case, but i want to know how i get my icons, start menu and background back...
I will post a hijack this in two minutes, i need to install it first.

ok...i cannot save a log file, which reminds me, my user system is screwed up too, the name of my user is charles, the name before i changed it was al, well now its displaying all of my files under al as a user, then under charles, a lone folder which i dare not open named: {f15a6a48-792f-43a0-baf9-f0f795efb32a}
and i have no idea where that has come from...

i cant find any of my files...my user name doesnt show up in the users file, nor does this al file...only ones are public and updatususer, which is something to do with the graphics card i have....
WHERE ARE MY FILESSSS!!!

so, no files, no icons, broken start menu, and no background...sorry for multi-post but...where are they, how do i get them back

Please download OTL to your Desktop. (If you already have it downloaded, then just follow the instructions below).

• Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

• Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  
  
  
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) and paste (Edit->Paste) the contents of these files, one at a time
