MySQL error

my MySQL Query Browser cant seem to connect to localhost as the server host
here is my typed in thing
serverhost:localhost port:3306
username:root
password:
default schema:odinms
i get error number 2003 cant connect to MqSQL server on 'localhost' (10061)
can anyone offer any aid?

I'm not a pro, but here's my guess.
Maybe
1) It's your firewall. So try switching it off or tweak the settings.

2) Go into c:\mysql\bin and right click the "mysqld" file and choosing run as.
Choose the first option (current user etc..) and hit ok.

3) The files are in the wrong place.
Removed the previous service.
/bin/mysqld-nt /remove
Then install the service.
/bin/mysqld-nt /install
Then edit the my.ini file, by opening winMysqladmin
/bin/winmysqladmin
That command having opened the program, then you should select 4th tab, which is the my.ini file.
You then edit the file to reflect where you had the files of MYSQL.
If the MY.ini said you had it under c:\mysql ....and you have it under another folder altogether....
Just copy the files from your current folder to the specified by my.ini

na those didnt help much cos number 2~3 i dont really understand what u r supposed to do..

An Access denied error can have many causes. Often the problem is related to the MySQL accounts that the server allows client programs to use when connecting.

Probably Firewall. But i have one more opinion.
Hold Ctrl and Alt, than press Del and you will get Windows Task Manager. Try to find your server in Services list. Than you will know. Maybe off or on. Trust me you will know
