I have a Compaq Presario. When my computer first boots up the name " COMPAQ " comes on the screen and then the Windows operating system boots. My computer started with Windows 98. I upgraded to Windows 98se, Me, and then XP over then years and " COMPAQ " still boots up when I turn on my computer.

Where is this " COMPAQ " info stored ? Is it on the Hard Drive somewhere, the BIOS ? If I upgrade to a new motherboard and processor will this info be lost ? I kind of like the Compaq name and would like to keep it on my computer when it boots up after I upgrade to a new motherboard and processor. Thanks for any info.

Hi,

You can't do that, it's stored in ROM memory of motherboard. ROM is Read Only Memory, and you can't change it, so it means you can't copy that screen to new motherboard. If you change motherboard, you change all what your computer have, you'll also need to install Windows again.
