Hi,
I've got the 'your system is infected' virus on my laptop... I have a green background on my desktop with a black box in the middle with the following "YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED! System has been stopped due to a serious malfunction. Spyware activity has been detected. It is recommended to use spyware removal tool to prevent data loss. Do not use the computer before all spyware removed."

I also keep getting pop ups from 'Internet Security 2010' offering me ways to fix this.

I've run a virus scan with avast! but it doesn't seem to have found the problem.

Can someone help me please!!!

Thank you

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

Hi, I ran MBAM but after it had scanned I didn't have the 'Show Results' option so couldn't do the 'Remove Seected' step. It did open up a log file though - the contents of this are:

Hello.

I see that you are running BitTorrent.
P2P(Peer to peer) applications are designed to help you easily share and distribute files between you and a group of people. But they can also be used to distribute malware, and thus are not considered safe.
The removal of these programs is optional, but highly recommended.

You are also running two antivirus', I see from the uninstall list you have Mcafee installed, along with Avast. This is a bad idea as they can conflict and cause more problems. I would recommend that you remove Mcafee to avoid conflict and other future problems.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

    BitTorrent
    DNA
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
    Viewpoint Media Player (Remove Only)

Completely Uninstall McAfee software

Download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool

Using McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool
· Double click the MCPR.exe
· A Command Line window will be displayed, and then close automatically.
· Wait for a second Command Line window to be displayed. Note: Do not double-click MCPR.exe again, you may have to wait up to 1 minute for the next window to appear.
· After the second window appears, the program will begin the cleanup.
· Observe the installation, which could take several minutes. The following message will be displayed in the Command Line window: The machine must reboot to complete the un-installation. Reboot now? [y.n]
· Press Y on the keyboard.
· Wait for the computer to restart.
· All McAfee products are now removed from your computer.
