Hi! Ive spent a good few hours reading through loads of threads with the same problem as me! Win XP and constant pop ups "application cannot be executed......." plus infiltration alerts on the bottom right and a security centre pop up showing my AV is either not on or out of date (both incorrect).

I am unable to run Hijack this even if rename to scr or prt etc...

Firefox works if I can keep it on tip of the pop up ! Any help on where to go from here would be appreciated! I have gone through the new members guide but can't update as directed as no exe work at all !

This is driving me mad !

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Please run OTL.exe.

Copy the commands with file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created do the following:
Double click OTL.exe.

Click the CleanUp! button.
Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

OK - I have run OTL and cleaned up. I rebooted at the prompt and allowed the reboot to follow its usual path (not safe mode). The application cannot be executed pop up and the security warning are both still present .... where too now ??

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

I still have the same application cannot be executed pop up that prevents any exe file running. On startup i had 15 repeats in 2 mins. I am back in safe mode again.....

Please download exeHelper from one of the two links.

Double-click on exeHelper.com or exeHelper.scr to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
Post the contents of log.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com)

Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

Download the GMER rootkit scan from here: GMER

Unzip it and start GMER.
Click the >>> tab and then click the Scan button.
Once done, click the Copy button.
This will copy the results to your clipboard.
Paste the results in your next reply.

Note:
If you're having problems with running GMER.exe, try it in safe mode. This tools works in safe mode.
You can also try renaming it since some malware blocks GMER.

1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

* Tools->Options->Main tab
* Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
5. Close any open browsers.
6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.

Double click on ComboFix.exe.
Follow the prompts. NOTE:
ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

Close any open browsers.
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

FCopy::
c:\windows\$NtUninstallWMFDist11$\mspmsnsv.dll | c:\windows\system32\mspmsnsv.dll
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe
Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt
Please post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Hello.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs.

Updating Java:

Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 17.
Select the second option where it says "This special release provides a few key fixes.".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
In the Window that opens, select your platform, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u17-windows-i586.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.

How is the machine running now?

I am unable to runthe add/remove program from the control panel or run the downloaded java file. If i go to safe mode Java does not allow either an uninstall or update.

On my desktop i curently have 1 pop up with application cannot be executed etc etc and an Antivirus software alert - infiltration alert at the bottom right hand side. Also a security centre pop up and a further spyware pop up... no change from the start .

I do appreciate your help so far.. where next?

No. In normal mode i can do almost nothing.. Control panel will open but the change/remove programs option will not open.
