Ok so heres the deal. I am running windows vista home premium. I uninstalled Norton 360 and my internet quit working for pretty much everything ms updates, safari browser, itunes, internet explorer and so on. Firefox however remains online. i downloaded the norton removal tool and when i try to run it, it just blinks a cmd box really fast and goes away, and i do mean blink...
i have run in the cmd "regsvr32 actxprxy.dll" and "regsvr32 shdocvw.dll"
and rebooted as well as:
regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 msjava.dll
regsvr32 shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 browseui.dll
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 shell32.dll
a few of these gave me "the module (name) was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that (name) is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again."
I am not sure what is going on. Like I said I have tried quite a few things but nȯne have worked. I downloaded CA antivirus and installed just to have some protection for now as my isp offers it free to us but i cant update it because nothing except firefox will go online.
Oh and one other thing when you try to go to a web page in IE it wont connect and when you run "diagnose connection problems" it comes back with "Windows did not find any problems with this computer's network connection" wich is what got me to try firefox in the first place....
I turn off the firewall frequently to make sure repairs are "working" but alas to no avail......
Thanks,
Mike
