No shortcut buttons for the sims 3

Hi
I recently installed the Sims 3 on my laptop. It works fine, but theres no buttons on the start menu r on the desktop that says the program is installed. They were there for a bit but then I deleted the shortcuts from my main user account (i have a seperate one for playing games) and then it disappeared from the other user account.
The only way i can get the game to play is using the autorun when i put the disk in (and even then sometimes it doesnt recgnise the disk)
How do i get the buttons back onto the start menu and the desktop?

Start >> Computer >> C >> Program Files. It will be something like EA or Sims. Find something similar to the game. Right click the Sims file >> Send to >> Desktop.
