I opened my wife's computer to blow out the dust, and add 2 more gigs of RAM and another hard drive; but, I didn't see that I partially dislodged the power cable to her boot drive. When I restarted, it gave this error message:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\system 32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file."
Can I repair this XP installation so I can recover this PC back to normal? I have looked on my own computer and have found where the needed file is located, so I could potentially copy it onto a flash drive or cd, but I'm not experienced much at performing command-line type manipulations. The Windows XP installation disk doesn't offer to repair an existing Windows installation, only to perform a new install or make the repair console available. Please help, she needs this back in service for her photography business. Thanks, Ted.
