Hello,

I picked up this infection and took the following steps in an attempt to clear it:

-Killed the process sysguard.exe
-Ran a scan with Malwarebytes and followed the prompts to clean it. Upon restarting, the problem reappeared.

I attempted to manually kill it:

-Killed the process sysguard.exe
-Deleted Windows\sysguard.exe
-Deleted Windows\Prefetch\sysguard.exe-39D8A190.pf
-Deleted Windows\system32\iehelper.dll
-Deleted Registry Key HKEY_Current_User->Software->AV Scan
-Deleted Registry Value HKEY_Current_User->Software->Microsoft->Windows->Current Version->Run system tool C:\Windows\sysguard.exe

Upon restarting, the same items had to be deleted every time with the exception of iehelper.dll. I will post 2 HijackThis logs: 1 after I take the above actions and 1 after I reboot. I hope this is OK

Here is the log after I tried to manually kill it:

Hello. While you did a good job of attempting to clean it yourself via the registry, do not that. Doing so removes the malicious entries and then they no longer appear in the logs; if I can't see it, then I won't be able to fix it.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 browser-security.microsoft.com
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 antiwareprotect.com
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 www.antiwareprotect.com
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [KB926239] rundll32.exe apphelp.dll,ShimFlushCache
    O4 - Global Startup: office.exe
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.clearco.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.firstallied.com

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

OK, I ran HijackThis and fixed the items you mentioned. I installed MBAM from the link you gave me.

Upon running the scan, fixing and restarting, the sysguard.exe process did not appear. The only remnant I can see is Windows\Prefetch\sysguard.exe-39D8A190.pf. Do you need another HJT log?

Here is the MBAM log:

Hello.
Prefect folder is just a temp file folder in simple terms. We'll clean that out soon.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
  • When complete, DDS.txt will open.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.
