Privacy components Hijacked the Desktop

Privacy Components has thoroughly infected a friend's notebook. I D/L the Malwarebytes program but I have no desktop showing in either normal or in Safe Mode - in order to run the removal program. What should I do? This is a Vista Home Premium notebook.

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

• Double click and run the installer.
  
• It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  
• After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  
• Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.
  

Thanks for the fast response but I cannot get any response from the desktop - my screen is completely blank & shortcut keys or right-click context are not available. Flash drives do nt appear nor does My Computer or the Start Menu.
Basically, the only thing I can see is either the Privacy Components application or a blank screen no desktop, no tray, etc.

So we can't use the Task manager either? :hmm:

Do you have another machine we can use? we can try using Avira rescue disk (Linux based bootable disc, uses DOS and not Windows)

The task manager has been disabled but I do have another notebook available.
