Hello.
I am moving this to malware removal, there is signs of a malware infection here.

I see you have Viewpoint Manager, this is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

Additional info: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_137262.htm

I suggest you remove the program now.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O2 - BHO: Viewpoint Toolbar BHO - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\3.8.0\ViewBarBHO.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: Viewpoint Toolbar - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Viewpoint\Toolbar Runtime\3.8.0\IEViewBar.dll
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Internat.exe] internat.exe
    O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [internat.exe] internat.exe (User 'Default user')
O23 - Service: Microsoft NetWork FireWall Services - Unknown owner - NetServices.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: NNServ - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\nnrun.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

it still spikes to 100%! and constantly slowing down and speeding up (7, 2 8, 44, 74, 75, 86, 88, 33, 90, 100, 13%, etc.). It just keeps doing this. I don't understand.

Hello.
Okay, this is no longer a malware problem, but I'm suspecting it's more a software/hardware problem.

I see you have Symantec on the system, Symantec/Norton are big products because they come with antivirus/antispyware/firewall all in one, and this hogs the systems resources.

Second, SuperAntiSpyware has been installed on the system, but it's running from a removable drive (drive H:\), is SAS still installed or did you uninstall it?

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

@echo off
sc config "Microsoft NetWork FireWall Services" start= disabled
sc stop "Microsoft NetWork FireWall Services"
sc delete "Microsoft NetWork FireWall Services"
del fix.bat
exit

Save this as fix.bat, save it to your desktop.
Double click fix.bat and the black cmd window will open and close, this is normal.

If you want to tidy the machine up, and remove Symantec and SAS together and see if the system picks up in terms of perfomance.

NOTE: ok, i have NOT done what you have just instructed me to do YET

yeah, i thought it was a software/hardware problem... but it will eventually hit 100% and the internet stops working and it will stay there and i cant connect. So now I am on a different computer and am restarting that comp. and going to do now what you instructed me to do. How do i get rid of the superanit and SAS? I will do whatever it takes to free this comp up. VERY important for work!

Thank you

but when I uninstalled the Norton it took a good amount of time to uninstall.. would that be the same thing as what you want me to use? or continue to use that I want? also, what did I have 2006?

I'd guess 2005 or 2006.

now the computer is stuck at 100% when I turn it on! :-(

i have this Dynex G USB adaptor for my internet. I am using it on the same computer I am using now. It runs fine here, but I am having issues on the one that we are working on.

Hmm.
How much RAM does this machine have?

Hmm.
If the machine can run long enough, there is a very small program that gives info of the machines hardware.

Download CPU-ID from here:
http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_150.zip

Extract it and run it.
Choose the memory option.
What does it say in the "size" box?

Size: 512 MBytes

also, i ran the norton removal.. The comp now hovers anywhere between 4-10%.. sometimes it will spike to 60 and hit 100% but only for a sec.. when I open a program like to scan something.. it freaks out a little and will hover around 70-100 but then settle back down..

Well we got it down to 4-10%, meaning Norton was the problem. We'll install a MUCH smaller AV now.

"Size: 512 MBytes"

Anymore lack in speed can be blamed on that, nowadays, if you want that runs like brand new, you need atleast 1gb of RAM.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts.

Yes, install the AV from the link above.
Avira is a good program, I use it myself.

I buy all my computer parts I need from Play.com, they are a good company.

ok.. last 2 questions.. 1) Is buying RAM going to solve my problem w CPU usage sticking at 100% when running the scanner?? 2) how much RAM should I buy?

Well right now, 512mb, I'm guessing there is 2 256mb RAM sticks?
I'd buy 2 1gb sticks, but before, I'd post in our hardware section because some RAM is not always compatible with certain motherboards, so Doctor will know more in this area.
