I got the "blue screen of ERROR MESSAGE" while i was out today and came home to find it telling me that the following was the "technical information":

***STOP: 0X00000008E (0X0000003, 0X805127BE8, 0XEEEC2CB64, 0x00000000).

It also suggested I update my BIOS, and that i disable BiOS memory functions like caching and shadowing, and that I may need to do that in safe mode. I have no idea what these are or how to access them.

That said, here is the Hijackthis log:

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Between your last post and now I had been doing some web surfing, which i realize now was probably ill-advised, and this morning i came to the computerand it had the following blue screen of error message technical data for me:

***stop: 0x0000008E (0x80000003, 0x80527BE8, 0xEDA36B64, 0x00000000)

After some delay, OTL did run a scan and produce results and i shall post them in the next two posts.

At first OTL wasn't responding so i clicked the "RUN SCAN" button several times and now it keeps producing logs every ~60 seconds which is distressing. Here are the first two that it produced:

How do I get it to stop producing scan results?

Hello.
Just test this for me, go to Start > Run.

Type in eventvwr and hit enter.
What happens? do you get the Event Viewer window or an error?

Because I am in safe mode, the resolution on the screen is greatly reduced and no matter what I do, I cannot enlarge it. So: I am unable to see "Run" on the start menu.

Also I did a control alt delete quit of the program after it produced 20 scan logs or so. That did it.

Okay, hold the Windows flag key, and press 'R', that will open the Run box.

Hello.
Go into the System section, and find the most recent item listed, it should be a red X image next to it.

What does that error say?

Alas I do not know what a "BSOD" is.

Do you mean the problem for which we opened the event viewer? if so, then no, it does not happen.

Neither does the BLue SCreen Of Error Message (tm) occur. I am in safe mode and have been since i first started this thread so no problems have occurred since.

Hmm, can you boot normally please and see what happens? your first post you reported a STOP error from a BSOD. If it doesn't happen, we can write it off as a once off error, they come and go sometimes.

I've booted normally and everything is running smoothly at the moment. Even facebook, which until today would crash my browsers - i've tried all of the browsers out there, even Chrome and when fb's messenger started working, it all went to hell.

So far everything looks ok. Are there any other scans i should do?

This just in: I came back to the computer today after leaving to do some errands and was presented with another blue screen error message with the following technical data:

Right and I looked for it and it wasn't there. I did a system search for "ikhlayer.sys" and it found nothing.

Weird, well WhoCrashed can see it, or was able to see it in an older report, so Spyware Doctor was on this machine at some point.

You can try opening an topic in the Operating Systems forum, see if any other of the techs got any ideas.
