pc wont shutdown or reboot

hi i bought an E-system from pc world about a yr and a half ago but as i put agraphics card in myself the warranty was void and i have had several problems with it (most of which ive sored myself) however over the last week or two the pc refuses to shutdown or reboot it just gets stuck on the "saving settings" screen, i left it to shutdown and install updates last night around 2am got up at 12 today and the screen saying "Installing updates" was still on and the pc hadn't shut down.

I have had to shut the pc down manually each time to reboot or turn it off, ive tried virus scans, malware scans, anti spyware, adaware and registry cleaners all to no avail,i have even turned off system restore and gone into safe mode to scan and still nothing found so i don't know if this is a virus or a hardware problem please help.

Hello.
I see you are running Zonealarm on Vista.

First - Zonealarm has been known to cause slow downs and more problems in the past. I suggest you remove it.
Second - The Vista firewall is stronger than XP as it blocks incoming/outgoing traffic and you don't really need Zonealarm since the Vista firewall is good enough.

Remove Zonealarm, let me know how things are after.

Looks like it was zone alarm after all just uninstalled it and rebooted it only took a minute to reboot lol i originally had avast but forsome reason it stopped working but ill try and reinstall it as it does seem to be one of the best anti virus softwares out there, one again thankyou so much for your help this has been P***ing me off for ages lol

Another problem solved by getting rid of Zonealarm.
