Win32.zafi.b Removal Help

Hello all-
I'm new to this forum with very little advanced computer knowledge. I have somehow acquired this worm/virus on my computer. I've tried to download programs, but firefox and iexplorer will not let me connect to anything related to these issues. However, I can browse other sites with no problem. Where do I need to start to resolve this?

• Close Hijack This.
  

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  

Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Malwarebytes program freezes during install and will not continue Anything I may be doing wrong? Hijackthis installed with no problems though.

Hello.
Lets run a rootkit scan.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: HERE or HERE.

• Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  
• Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
  

2. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

• Leave the script box empty.
  
• Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  
• Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  
• Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  
• Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
  
  The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  
  
• It will Restart your computer.
  
• On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  
• After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  
• The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
  

3. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

When my computer restarted, AVG detected this file above as a backdoor trojan. I had the option to heal or move to vault, I selected heal (hope this was right choice). Thanks so much for the help you are giving me!

What problems remain?

Removed TDSSosvd.dat with no problem, just did a manual delete. Beside the file was tdssinit.dll.vir but I did not remove, just looked suspicious. Only other problem was ever since this virus/trojan, I have the ask.com toolbar in firefox that will not go away. Can't find it in tools->add-ons or any software removal programs. Is this at all related? I send my deepest appreciation for all your help! The main problem has been resolved! Does this site accept donations to keep it free?

Hello.

I see you have Adobe Reader version 7 installed on here, this is old and has holes malware may abuse, we need to close these holes.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

• Adobe Reader 7
  

Then download and install version 9 from here:
http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/

Now lets remove these old versions of Java.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) 6 Update 7
WildTangent Web Driver

Removed all old java versions. removed adobe reader 7 and installed 9. still can't find out how to remove ask toolbar.

Hello.
I know why it's there, it's something set in your userprefs.js file of Firefox, but I'd rather not play with that, I could mess up it since I've never done it before.

The Ask files are gone anyway, just hide the Ask toolbar if you can.
