I still have the pop up and the restriction when opening a new IE browser.

Okay, then we need to go deeper.

  • Download combofix from here, use the top links - combofix.exe
  • Please disable your local AV (Anti-virus) by right clicking it's icon in the tray, and exit it.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

    Win32.Zafi.b removal help Rcauto10

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

    Win32.Zafi.b removal help Whatne10

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

descriptionSolvedStopping AVG and CA

Combofix alerted me to stop the scanners from the above AV programs. I had already shut them down but they are still running in task manager. I try to end the processes in task manager but they automatically pop back up. So I tried to uninstall AVG and it is unsuccesful. the error that pops up is : Error action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key.... Error 0x80070005

I was able to remove CA. It asked me to restart my computer. Can I shut down combofix at this point? It hasn't started all the way yet. What do you recommend I do about AVG?

If you haven't run CF yet, then it should be okay to reboot, but once you start CF, don'd do anything, let CF do it all.

descriptionSolvedRe: Win32.Zafi.b removal help

I started it and the dos screen came up. It said it was preparing to run. Then a dialogue box came up that said it detected CA and AVG scanners were running and to turn them off before clicking OK. Well I am having problems getting AVG to stop! So now I don't know what my next step should be.

descriptionSolvedRe: Win32.Zafi.b removal help

Does it let you carry on even though AVG is enabled? If so, carry on.
AVG won't interfere.

descriptionSolvedRe: Win32.Zafi.b removal help

more_horiz
Yes it let me continue. Another screen did pop up and say that AVG was still running but CF would still run. And to Kindly note this at your own risk. It is running as I type. BTW, I am using 2 machines at the moment.
