ISpyNow infection!!!

Hi I am having what seems to be a common problem. I somehow got the IspyNow on my PC computer and can't remove it with Ad-Aware or AVG, and Spybot does not even open no matter what I do. It shows up under the Processes in Task Manager but not in Applications. Windows Firewall keeps popping up telling me that ISpyNow is there but all I can do is select "Enable Protection", and Firefox is constantly trying to reopen from its previous session and I'm afraid to let it so I keep turning Firefox off in Task Manager. I saw that you prefer a HijackThis log so here is the one I created. I get my internet through a USB Linksys adapter which is connected through an Apple router in my house. Thanks in advance. No obvious signs of malware in that log, so lets do this.
The OTViewIt.txt log from this can be quite long, so please make sure you post it all, because we need the information.

Download OTViewIt to your desktop.

• Close all windows and open it
  
• Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  
• It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up called OTViewIt.txt, the other will be saved on your desktop and called Extras. Post both those logs here.
  
• You may need to use two posts to get it all on the forum
  

Thank you for replying!! I downloaded OTViewIT to a flash drive and took it to my infected computer and ran it there (I have to use internet on a separate computer since the infected one will only redirect me to different websites when I try to use it).

I clicked Run Scan but I get 2 alert windows. The first one says "Error loading process libraries" with an Abort button, then after clicking Abort, a second window pops up saying "Invalid class string".

I tried it on this non-infected computer and it runs fine. My infected computer has Spybot Resident and AVG running currently, could those be causing problems?

No, TeaTimer would only stop changes. OTViewIt makes no changes, only scans.
AVG wouldn't stop it either, lets try this.

• Download combofix from here, use the top links - combofix.exe
  
• Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  
• Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  
• ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
  ***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

Combofix is having the same issue as my Spybot: When I double click the icon, or even right click and Open, they appear in the Processes under Task Manager but not under Applications. I get no prompts or anything. I don't suppose doing this in Safe Mode would help since Combofix would have to use the internet for downloading the Recovery Console?

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Please make sure Teatimer is disable before we do this, otherwise this script will not be allowed to run.

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run. When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop. Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.

I'm at work today until 5:30 EST, but I know that my computer refused to open Spybot-S&D. It only runs the resident down in the taskbar. However, I could see TeaTimer.exe in the Processes under Task Manager. I could end the process from there but only if you recommended it. Thanks for continuing to help me with this. I will resume activity here when I get home today.

Silentrunners isn't a .exe file, so it should be able to bypass whatever is stopping us.

But what I mean is that I cannot disable TeaTimer because I cannot run Spybot S&D. It only appears in Processes but the program itself does not open.

Please try killing TeaTimer via Task Manager.

Ok sorry. I am back now and about to pull my hair out. I turned off TeaTimer in Task Manager, unzipped Silent Runners and double clicked it and I get an alert message which I have attached.

The error you are experiencing means that means you cannot run any VBS script on your system. Let's try to reinstall the Microsoft Windows Script Host.

Hey thanks for your help! Is it possible to download that and put it on a flash drive and install on a separate computer? My infected computer will not allow me to go to many websites. It redirects me to link pages mostly. So I have to use a separate clean computer and go back and forth between that one and my infected one. I will try when I get home today to download that from my infected computer, but if the computer won't allow me to access the internet, I'm not sure how I'll get it on there.

Hello.
That didn't show any signs of the usual droppers of the tdssserv rootkit. But there is definitely something going on.
We can confirm it another way, if it will work. First though, we need to make a dummy file for this to attack while it may show the rootkit.

Press Start > open "My Computer" > Open the C Drive.
Right click anywhere and open the "New" menu > make a new "Text Document", save this as test.txt

Good news! I found that if you add a hyphen in the filename of ComboFix (Combo-Fix.exe), it will work if it didn't before. I apologize if it was foolish of me to attempt combofix without your approval the second time. The good news is though that it ran and I got a log for you. It found a rootkit and rebooted the system and then ran and Spybot eventually woke up and told me that a lot of different old values were deleted and asked if I would allow the change. I assumed that was the work of ComboFix so I allowed it. I hope that's not a mistake. Here is the log:

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11.
  
• Select the first option where it says "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11".
  
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
  
• In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
  - Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
  - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
  - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
  
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
  

Please make sure the new version of Java is installed before you run JavaRa.

We need to make a new restore point.

To turn off System Restore, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Click the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.

Now we need to make a new restore point.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers.

1) Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Ad-Aware SE

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

SpywareBlaster

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

5) Finally, consider maintaining a firewall. Some good free firewalls are Kerio, or
