no video playback on pc

i hope this is the right topic to place this in.
recently all my videos have stopped working. they play sound but no picture. i have got new k-lite codec pack installed and updated my ati catalyst drivers but still nothing.
this has only just started in the last week i think

What software are you using to play your videos? This sounds like a codec problem.

In the mean time you can use this free video player, VLC. No codec is required to run this player and it support one of the widest range of video formats compared to other players.

i use VLC already. Its kinda weird because like i said it has only just happened in the last week or so. ive tried updating all codecs but nothing has changed

Try getting this Windows Media Codecs from Microsoft.

Are you using the latest version of VLC? What video format are you trying to play when this happens?

i just updated to teh new version of VLC. 0.9.4 i think. also got the windows media codecs and updated to media player 11. still nothing tho. kinda weird aye? im mostly playing just .avi or .wmv files.

I use community combined codec. It has many codecs in one simple installer.

i had that when the video stopped. my friend told me to try k-lite instead

ok i just randomly played a quicktime file and it worked. so quicktime = working. VLC, Windows media player etc... = *cry*

Hmm... VLC cannot use external codecs so try changing the Video Output.

Go to tools >> Preferences

ok so itunes also plays the vids that i import to it. but VLC, windows media player and Winamp only playing sound!

Let's try to disable Accelerated video output/Overlay video output which can be found under Tools >> Preferences and then choosing Video.

After you have unticked the Accelerated video output, press Save to save VLC settings and restart VLC after that to make sure changes are enabled.
