I have another friend who needs help in computer issues... since i don't really know 100% that what i'm guessing is correct so i guess i'll post it up here.

Th LCD monitor was bought from someone publishing a advertisement on the newspaper.
It's second hand and 15 inch i think, not really sure... it was bought at $150-200

it was bought 3 days ago...

yesterday i went to his house as he was complaining that his computer lags...

his computer was P4 2.8ghz 246mb ram.
no graphic card is installed...
I'm guessing that his comp has viruses/malwares/etc or that there's jus too many programs running. and he as norton installed. but it has expired.

okay the main problem
i switched off his computer.
replaced his Disc drive as it was spoiled with one i brought along.
plucked everything back in, switched on, place a xp disc in.
but somehow the monitor isn't responding...
according to my friend.. it wasn't the first time.
the computer's on, but the monitor isn't working.
the keyboard doesn't seem to work as well..
i've checked many times in my wires placement. nothing's wrong.

and if i press any of those 4 buttons (menu, +, -. Power)
it will show a message
"Power save mode
Press any key or move the mouse to continue"
we did so. followed the instructions, but this still continues..
computer's restarted and same problem occurs.

so my question is...

is the lcd monitor spoiled? was my friend scammed? lolz.
well i bought my lcd mon at the exact same price 17 inch and it works really well...
hahaz... 2nd hand though...

hope someone would figure this out for me.
thanks!

The first question i would ask is......Does it respond when you attach another monitor?

Knowing that your monitor works perfectly ok, have you tried it on your friends machine to see if responds?

If it does, then im afraid that yes, your friend has been scammed unless there is some sort of return policy available.

If it doesnt, then the issue lies elswhere (possibly something to do with the optical drive replacement)!

Please post back and let us know what happens so we can help to get to the bottom of this issue for you.

hmm.. thanks for the reply.

I've not yet tried connecting another monitor..
well that's because we dont have any spare.

This morning. My same friend told me his computer can be switched on again.. go into windows and all that sort of thing.

I'm quite sure the optical drive is placed correctly.
as i opened his cpu before i did anything to it.

also. there's no return policy at all.
no warranty whatsoever.

most probably we would not be able to get a spare monitor to test out the problem so i just wanted to know roughly what may cause the problem.

is it a hardware malfunction?

sorry.. can't really do much in what u told me to do.

but thanks anyway.

Its hard to tell for sure if its hardware related without performing the required test!

Its important that we perform a 'process of elimination' in order to lead us to the culprit.

We can however look at the software side of things to see if there's an issue we need to attend to there.

You could help your friend to post a HijackThis log in the Malware forum so the experts there can take a look to see whats running on his system.
