Recently, i have been experiencing this problem of slow boot up for my Vista OS.

To start things off, the Microsoft boot screen loads for quite some time.
After the welcome screen, it hangs about a few seconds~(10) which has never happened before, on a blank page screen before the desktop icons, wallpaper and all that starts to load.

I wonder if its the visual styles and boot screens i have changed these few days that have caused these problems.
After restoring all changes to default, the same problem remains.

I have tried scanning with Norton and Avira but no virus was detected.
In addition, my harddisk still has plenty of space.

Advice on the above matter is greatly appreciated as I might be attempting to reformat in a fews days time if not for stumbling upon this site Ahahaha
Thanks in advance. =D Thank You!

Please disable any antivirus before following the steps below.

I have written a little program that will gather information about programms running on startup, and display the info in notepad.
Please download it from the following location: http://opengenco.com/Documents/GatherStartup.zip

When it has finished downloading, please extract and run the executible that is inside of it. It will take a few min, so please be patiant. It will look like it is doing nothing, but it is actually gathering information.

When it displays the log, please paste it to your next post on this thread.

After you have done that, please enable your antivirus so that it can contnue to protect you.

If you do not use an Alps Touchpad, then you can remove Apoint from startup.

In addition, if you do not use a wireless connection, then you can safly remove hpWirelessAssistant and WAWifiMessage from startup.

You can also remove GrooveMonitor from startup as it seems to be apart of office 2007, and is not completely needed. If you do not use office often, I highly recommend that you remove it. Its design is for error reporting of crashes in office.

If you do this, please report back to let us know if there is any improvements.

Do you have your card overclocked through coolbits?

EDIT
PLEASE READ THIS!
Please remove cleaver cache, as it causes nothing but trouble in vista.

After uninstalling it, please reboot your computer. You should notice an imence improvement as soon as your computer boots.

Ok, i have done all you instructed but it seems that the problem is still there.
I shall rephrase it again.

It is the time taken from boot and welcome screen to my desktop being run that its taking too long.
Not the time taken for my explorer.exe/ desktop to load/ run.

The welcome screen takes a long time to load finish and the screen hangs at a pitch black Background for about 10~20 secs before the things on my laptop are being loaded.

Hope advice could be given on the above matter.
Ty.

@ no, i dont dabble in overclocking.
haha

Can you please tell me what OnScreenDisplay belongs to?

Hmm could i have a lil' bit more info about the little bar you are talking about? Let me think
Do you mean the "Microsoft loading bar"? o.o

@ When i turned on msconfig, i couldn't find anything got to do with OnScreenDisplay. =@

Wondered how it got into my startup list Shh a secret

Yes, the loading bar. If you do not see it, then you have unchecked a very important option in msconfig.

Are you sure that OnScreenDisplay isnt in startup?

Could you please follow the instructions I gave you before to post a new startup list? Thank you.

Oh, oops lol

I was mastaking the names, as they look almost exactly alike lol Sorry friend. :shy:

Please try disableing NvSvc from startup.
If it causes problems, or doesnt solve your problem, then reinable it.

Also, please try to figure out what OnScreenDisplay belongs to. Does it have anything to do with this website? : http://www.onscreendisplay.net/

Are you trying to say that this has solved your problem?

I do not believe that a format will be needed. If you really want to format, then you can, but I do not recommend it.
