Hey,

I have a Toshiba satellite L750D laptop

I was on my laptop last night and it was booting up fine, i then took it to work so the technician there could have a look at it, But he said bring it back friday which i did since he was had a busy day I took it home when school (yr11) was over, Now im wondering if anything could have been bump but i dont recall bumping anything at all since it was inside a bag.

A few nights before this i charged my laptop but for some reason the charger stopped working and so did a few other chargers that where plugged in the same switch system (phones,1 other laptop charger) So i thought it could have been a serch that went threw the chargers (may be spelled wrong)

Since it was connected to the laptop at this time, is it possible that the serge could be another possible doubt that could have caused damage to the laptop or some parts??

The issue is that the when i boot it up i can ear the HDD (External Hard Disk) Booting up finely But the fan, keyboard and screen is not working I had a spear asus charger and it seems to charge fine because i can see the charge light, I have also taken the ram out and it beeps fine. So i dont think it would be the motherboard since the laptop is only 4 months old.

Could this be the mobo or powerbox?

Please reply

Thanks this frustrating No way!

Hearing the beeps when the RAM is removed is promising. It says tha the board is getting power, so the AC power adapter is probably OK. It also says that some of the mobo is working.

How do you know the keyboard isn't working? If the screen is black, you won't be able to see typing. Do you see anything at all on the screen? If not, the display might be bad. Connect an external display for testing.

When you press either the Caps Lock or Num Lock, do the appropriate indicators come on? If they do, then the keyboad is probably good.

As user said in previous topic, it seems there is a lot of display trouble.

Therefore, it is probable that there is either a problem with the monitor, or the video card is bad.

Here is the question to answer:

Do you see the black screen with white letters (POST Screen) upon boot?

When i boot the laptop up the keys the caps and num lock key flash on, this is normal for my laptop its a good sign that it is turning on, I hear the HDD Turn on like it normally does and the fan is spinning now Smile...

but i carnt turn the num lock or caps light on and theres not power at all going threw the screen even by the external monitor

Could this be the processor, it does sound like a video card issue so can this be replaced?

i might take it to a technician or computer shop is it possible to solder a graphics card off then apply a new one?

diffintly something in the motherboard but the power is getting threw.

Did you check the cables to the display? Are they seated properly?

Sometimes, depending on how you treat the screen, will depend on its life. It may just need fixed.

So, a technician should know that either it is a video card issue or a display issue. Let the technician only focus on the display first. It will be less cost to have the display looked at first, instead of the video card.

Will i just had another look and it seems like its booting up fine, A Technician (school Technician) did say That he had good news and bad news

Good News: The laptop was still alive.
Bad News: he couldn't get it going that was only having a very quick look since his busy doing his job aswill as this.

It will cost me $40 dollars to have it looked at but i will open it up tommrow and check if theres any lose wires or things out of place.

PS: Where would i check the display wires would that be on the motherboard or screen?

Remember an external monitor wont work ethier..

And where would i check the display cables?

Its a laptop.

Edit: Ok i have worked it out now it does seem likes its the Display cable that connects into the laptop from the motherboard, What is the correct name for this?

Im going to look for a replacement.

No gaurentee but it seems like the display cable

Yep, looks like the display cable is broken but how does that explain it not working on a external monitor?

please reply.

Try using Fn + F5. Do that by holding the FN key and tap the F5 key at the top of the keybaord. That should toggle the graphic output to the external display.

Agreed on Jan's idea, but if the display cable shorted out after it broke, then it may or may not have busted the video card too.

A technician (a good one that is) can check the video card for errors or other damage.

When you boot the computer, how many beeps (if any) are there and what is the pattern? (Long (----) versus short (****))

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

Hopefully it hasnt if thats the case i may aswill get a new motherboard becuase the video is soldered onto the mobo itself.

When i take the ram out i heard the normal beeping sound that if it was working It beeps 2 times per secound and stops around the 6th secound which is normal and they are short versus one/two per second.

And i think the video card is still working I opened the computer up and play around with the display cable and a few times i saw a quick flash on the screen which tells me the cable must of shorted out.

Thanks for the help so far.

How would i know if its the display cable for sure?

What tests could i run this will save me money to get a technician to look at it and all they have todo and replace the part thats broken or has sorted out.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

Well, if you saw a flash on the screen when you fiddled with the cable, it is indeed shorted out.

Now, before I answer these questions for sure...

Did you/were you able to get an external screen to work when plugged in?

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

more_horiz
Like i thought should i buy a new cable of ebay or somewhere then and test it with a new one or still take it to a technician?

And no the external display doesent work still but seeing the flash tells me that the graphic card is still operational, what does the display cable run? would that be external aswill.
And i didnt know a charger that gets shorted out by a switch can ruin a good laptop

The only issue is that i wont be able to have it looked at for another 2 weeks since i need to get enough money to pay for it to get looked at.

The display cable is a good chance, if it's cheap. It is probably the best first chance method to do.

Laptop screens, when you buy them, are quite expensive. And motherboards, don't get me started. Goofy

But yeah, let's try the first method you have suggested to fix the issue, and let me know if that works out or not.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

Ok, I will try and see if that works I will also take it to a techinican first and see what they say.

So where can a find a display c able that will fit into the motherboard to the screen theres none on ebay?

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

Good question... Goofy

Search this in Google Shopping... there are a couple of items in there: toshiba l750d laptop display cable

Thanks you helping alot with this situation Big Grin

I will search now and see what i can find in there.

My other question would be is, Would the display cable affect the external display aswill?

I have no clue if the connection from the display cable would affect the ext. display.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

I may aswill try the display cable first i will get a techician to look at it and if they say its a display cable i will purchase a new one.

Dont know what can shortned out only a four month old laptop?

Not sure. See what the technician says and keep me updated, please. Smile...

Please check your pms

Hey,

How much would it cost just to put a new motherboard in?

everything is breaking down, its not worth fixing everything every 5 secounds.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

more_horiz
First you have to figure out the cost of the new motherboard...it depend on your PC.

Although a difficult process, it should be manageable to do it on your own, but only if you have PC repair experience.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

more_horiz
I know someone that does I have just sold the hard disk to someone but i can get a new disk.

And i know someone that has pc repair expirence he will do it for no fee.
But the motherboard will be the main cost.

PS: Sorry for the short sentences in a hurry doing some things.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

Okay. Hope it works out.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

Ok Thanks.
Money is the big issue here.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

I few options have game up.

I have two choices

A) Buy one at a secound hand shop and swtich the motherboard over ($250 Dollars which i can easily pay of each fornight)
B) Get A Toshiba of a techinican that i know for $100 and swap the disk over?

A will get me the machine back on a new system B will give me a diff rent computer with the same disk/data.

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

It's all on you what you want to try...

Buying anything at a second hand shop may be risky, unless you know you can trust the shop...

descriptionComputer Has Black Screen, No Fan EmptyRe: Computer Has Black Screen, No Fan

more_horiz
Yes i can trust this shop, i speak to the owner regually, But all i need todo and get the parts out of the toshiba (processor, hdd etc) and put it in the secound hand laptop.
