Mcafee wont turn on firewall?

Every time i turn on my computer, mcafee displays a warning saying my computer isnt fully protected, i i open the alert and find either firewall turned off, or realtime scanning off, or anti spam off.
I recently had a scan turn back 1 trojan virus, a later scan with MBAM revealed many more trojan viruses, but since MBAM has revealed nothing, yet mcafee will not even scan when i press scan...so i dont know whats wrong...
something strange keeps happening with hijackthis, so i cant save a log file, it just says it already exists and asks to replace it, i cant ever see a logfile...

Please download OTL to your Desktop. (If you already have it downloaded, then just follow the instructions below).

• Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

• Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  
  
  
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) and paste (Edit->Paste) the contents of these files, one at a time

the program when finished scanning opens up two blank logfiles, notepad docs with no text in them..i have no idea whjere to go from here, what else can we try?

need to bump, i really need an answer soon, the computer is still doing all of the above without actually giving a useable logifle to be able for me and my inferior skills to judge it, is there an alternative?

havnt had any reply, could really use some help, also, the confugration settings for everything appeared in folders and on the desktop suddenly, mum being clueless sent to recycle bin, but didnt clear it, ive restored them, but we are unable to access areas like my music or my pictures...
