Hello.

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1

    1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

    * Tools->Options->Main tab
    * Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

    2. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    iexplore.exe application error CF_download_FF

    iexplore.exe application error CF_download_rename

    3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
    4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
    5. Close any open browsers.
    6. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.
  • See HERE for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

    iexplore.exe application error Cf410

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

    iexplore.exe application error Cf510

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

ok, had some problems here...the program began to run, but then it stopped and gave me this error (see error 1 file attached)
I had to click ignore for the program to continue.
Then I had problems with my CA security center trying to block a program (even though I followed the directions given on the link to disable it)..see error 2 (file attached) for the popup i got...i had to say "allow always"
When the program stopped running, I did not have any created file to post. Instead, this was created (see error 3 attached).

Hi again,
Thanks, there haven't been any more errors popping up. However, I wanted to check with you about the security I now have on the machine. I removed the CA security system (that came thru our cable provider) during the course of the fixes. I now have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO with protection module, System Mechanic's System Guard, and just now when I downloaded Java, it said it was also downloading McAfee Security Scan Plus (Which i just entered, updated and ran...and it said that i don't have virus and spyware protection, firewall, etc, am vulnerable to attack and should purchase mcafee security system. Do I need anything besides the Malwarebytes and System Guard, and are these 2 systems compatible with one another? (not that I've seen any problems thus far). I rather think that the CA security was causing issues rather than preventing them...but I'd like your advice. In the past we've had Mcafee, Norton, but they both seemed to slow down our systems. Now with the Malwarebytes and System Guard, the laptop seems to be running well....but is it sufficiently protected? thanks!

descriptioniexplore.exe application error EmptyRe: iexplore.exe application error

Hello.
Norton and Mcafee are both huge system resource hogs.

Download Security Check by screen317 and save it to your Desktop.

  • Unzip SecurityCheck.zip and a folder named Security Check should appear.
  • Open the Security Check folder and double-click Security Check.bat
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: if a security program requests permission from dig.exe to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

It's safe.

There is also no antivirus installed, so lets fix that now.

You aren't running Anti Virus Software

Please install Avira antivirus otherwise you won't be protected.

1) Antivir PersonalEditionClassic
-Free anti-virus software for Windows.
-Detects and removes more than 50,000 viruses. Free support.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts.
