My new Dell Inspiron N5030 was infected with the System/Windows/Internet Defender virus last night. Please help me to remove it from my laptop. This is all new to me because in the past, I have only worked with Macintosh computers. Please advise.
Thank you,
Steve

Hello.

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

i have produced the 2 logs, but i do not know what you mean by "post both logs in the thread." i also do not understand the next line of your instructions, "you may need to use 2 posts to get it all." as i mentioned, i have prior experience with macintosh computers only, and this is new to me.

thanks for your help & understanding.

Copy and paste both logs is what I meant. Goofy

Sometimes the board software wont allow a log that is over the character limit so you may need to use 2 posts.

dear belahzur,
i appreciate the help you have provided, however, i do not understand what you mean exactly when you ask me to "copy and paste the logs." you mentioned in your last message that you wanted me to copy & paste both logs possibly using 2 posts due to software limitations, but i do not even understand how to copy and paste the logs. please explain. this must sound very foolish, so please pardon my ignorance.
so far, i have 3 items on my desktop. the 2 documents, OTL. txt & Extras.txt, and the OTL .exe. what exactly do i do next? thanks. by the way, best buy wants to charge me $200 to fix the problem. i look forward to hearing back from you at your convenience. thanks again.

Open the text documents, highlight all the text by using the ctrl + A button, and then press, press ctrl + C. Next in this text box, press ctrl + V and it should paste the logs in here.
