Rogue FakeEset / No internet connection

Parent's laptop runs Windows7. Infected by Rogue FakeEset. Think I cleaned the laptop by Malwarebytes in Safe Mode and turning off Restore Point. But they can't connect to any wireless network now.

McAfee doesn't detect any viruses, etc, but its not up to date since they can't get on the internet.

What am I not doing right?

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet Explorer and/or in FireFox.

In Internet Explorer

1. Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.
   

In Firefox

1. Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"
   
2. Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.
   

Can you access the internet now?

No, they don't have a proxy set in IE.

Seems the wireless adapter isn't turned on... Looking how to find that in Win7.

Was able to connect to internet by cable, updated Malwarebytes, downloaded Spybot & SpywareBlaster. Ran another Malwarebytes in SafeMode, found 2 Rogue.FakeEset again. Removed and rebooted. Ran Spybot in SafeMode, 0 found.

So even though this started w/ malware, am I in the wrong forum since it seems its a connecting to network issue now??

Please download the current version of HijackThis from HERE

• Double click and run the installer.
  
• It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  
• After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  
• When Hijack This opens, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  
• Then select "Open Uninstall Manager"
  
• Click on "Save List..." (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  
• Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Got this from HijackThis before the scan:

For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this.

If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run and type:

notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

and press Enter. Find the line(s) HijackThis reports and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts.' (with quotes), and reboot.

For Vista: simply, exit HijackThis, right click on the HijackThis icon, choose 'Run as administrator'.

Hello.

• Click Start >> Control Panel.
  
• Under the Programs click Uninstall a Program
  
• Highlight the following programs:
  
  Adobe Reader 9.4.2
  Ask Toolbar
  
  
• Click on the Uninstall/Change button at the top.
  

Your Java needs updating!

• Please go to Start > Control Panel, click on Java.
  
• When the Java control panel opens, go into the Update tab.
  
• At the bottom of that window, press the "Update Now" button and it will attempt to download the latest Java update.
  
• Next, the Updater window opens, hit the Install button. It will now attempt to download the update.
  
• Untick the box for installing the Yahoo Toolbar when asked.
  

Then download and install Adobe Reader X

Removed, updated, etc as you said. Computer is running fine. Still a connecting to network issue though. Time to move into another forum?
