Hi. Today I installed Turbotax 2010, It seem to install OK, and I successfully completed the recommended updates. Them I clicked on the "Begin" button and after a long time, I received a message "Turbotax has encountered a problem...." There is an error report but I don't know what any of it means. One thins I see is "0xc0000005" which seems to be a common error. I decided to try to launch Turbotax 2009 which I have on my computer from last year. It worked fine when I installed it and used it last year - I did multiple tax returns from February - April 2010. Well, guess what - same problem as with 2010. That makes me think it is something with my computer. Can you help? (not sure if this is the right forum) Thanks!

What operating system is this running on?
Typically the 0xc0000005 is an access violation of somekind. Meaning something is blocking the program from running or accessing some kind of connection/database/file/etc.

Have you run any virus scanners of the sort since you feel you might have caught something?

No, this isn't the right forum, the correct one would be in operating systems, but I can't move it as I'm not staff, just a user Smile...

Regardless, I'll help more once you respond.

Hi thanks for responding. Since my original post, I have done a lot of trouble shooting, including contacting Turb Tax support, but I am still having problems. It seems to have something to do with my ,Network framework. One of the trouble shooting steps tells me to run sfc / scannow, but that keeps telling me I need my Windows XP disck, which I don't have. (my son borrowed it, claims he gave it back, but....). I found some info about how to get past the scannow with the disk, but apparently I need an i1386 folder or something like that and I don't have it. I tried to remove and reinstall the latest version of .netframework, and reinstall tyrbotax, but the install puts the old versions of . net framework back on my computer, It seems like a vicious cycle. I have been trying to find a WIndows XP Home Edition SP3 CD to borrow but so far no luck. So that's where I am.

Any ideas? (I do run malwarebytes and spyblaster, from time to time)

Well a quick google search will yield what you seek concerning XP. Also the i1386 folder is on the Windows XP disk so theres really no way around it with that method.

But searching through microsoft's knowledge base it all seems to say that the error 0xc0000005 is fixed by a few hotfixes. Why a few? well it's a general error of sorts, and shows up with many programs, even bsods.

Here is the search, http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?query=0xc0000005+xp+sp3&catalog=LCID%3D1033&mode=r

I'd suggest to try running windows update and see if the issue resolves with that. Also, concerning .netframework try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077 a clean uninstall and reinstall may help ontop of the updates.

I personally don't usually trust updates from microsoft, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet as they own the worlds operating systems.
