This is what my computer is doing: It keeps restarting itself. It doesn't even make it to the windows welcome screen before doing so. When I turn it off and try again it will do a long beep pause then repeat said beep. It was working fine the night before and earlier yesterday. However, while I was gone for two hours yesterday evening, it went into sleep mode. I came back, moved my mouse to get it out of sleep mode and it restarted itself. It has been doing that since. I can't even get it into safe mode to do a diagnostic with out it restarting itself. I did use a can of air to blow out any dust, but it didn't work. I tried to use the Windows disk to do a diagnostic, but, again, the computer restarted itself.
The computer is a Frankenstein. My husband and I used parts from other computers to rebuild it. The newest component is the power supply, which we bought six months ago. One of the hard drives, the cd and dvd drives are from my Dell computer I bought three years ago. I don't know how old the other parts are. All the fans seem to be working just fine. Another thing I discovered, it restarts itself is I try and go update any random program like Java or AdAware, when it actually stays loaded long enough for me to do so. I've tried to look at how much memory it has, but it won't stay on long enough for me to accomplish this.
I allowed it to cool off over night. This morning, I used my laptop to download a malware program, managed to get it transferred to my PC and start installing it. The computer fussed and restarted itself. Now, it's stuck in the restart loop. Last night, I managed to get into the system long enough to turn off the auto restart to see if that would do anything. Nothing. Right now, it's not beeping at me when I turn it on, but it can't seem to get to the windows loading screen before restarting itself. It'll get as far as the boot up screen, the screen where I can press F1 to get to start up, and then restart. I've managed to get into Set Up, but it only allowed me to look at the screen for a moment, before restarting.
There have been a couple of times, before this major issue, that the computer would beep at me when I turned it on. I'd wait a few minutes, then try again and it would work fine. I would post the specs of my comp, but I can't get into it long enough to do that.
