Running Vista operating system. This malware/virus seems to have downloaded itself on to my computer. From safe mode w/ networking I can access the internet but on the regular boot up any executable file (inc .bat .pif .scr or renamed files like commy.exe for combofix) will not load as it is (falsly) detected as a virus by this secuity suite malware.

I can run any program in safe mode as well as download them to desktop from external harddrive but when they run they don't detect the virus. When I try to run a diagnostic in regular boot up mode it fails to open, although I did manage to install malwarebite-anti-malware from an install file I downloaded - just not run it.

Is there anyway I can get a hijackthis log/combofix on here for you to look at? any fixes you can recommend or is it looking like I will have to boot from recovery disk/ nuke the operating system and start again. Thanks guys.

Hello.

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here
    Link 1
1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:

* Tools->Options->Main tab
* Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

2. During the download, rename Combofix to svchost as follows:

Security suite/ .exe is infected CF_download_FF

Security suite/ .exe is infected 2aflf5z

3. It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
4. Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
5. Close any open browsers.
6. We need to disable your local AV (Anti-virus) before running Combofix.

  • See HERE for how to disable your AV.
  • Double click on svchost.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouse click combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Is this correct? It kept saying while running that it couldn't do certain things because it wasn't ran from the Adminstrators command prompt, despite my account having admin privilege. This was done in Safemode w/networking and after it completed I had to restart because the internet browser stopped working.

Edit: Just ran Safemode w/networking to read any responces to this thread and the security suite virus popped up again. I didn't even know that could happen in safemode

Ran again and it still won't post a full log. I looked at a guide for the program, everything up to here works, but I never see this page. I waited about 15 minutes after the first picture but nothing came up and no log was posted in c:\combofix.txt

Okay forget Combofix for now, there really only 1 area I want to check for another infection hiding.

Download MBRCheck to your desktop.

  • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (Vista and Windows 7 users, right click and select Run as Administrator).
  • It will show a black screen with some data on it.
  • A report called MBRcheckxxxx.txt will be on your desktop
  • Open this report and post its content in your next reply.

The virus has stopped popping up in regular boot up mode now and the program ran fine. Some of the threats it found caused my Avira Antivir software to pop up with a threat and let me move it to quarantine that way.

The log had this in it:

ESETSmartInstaller@High as CAB hook log:
OnlineScanner.ocx - registred OK

It seemed ok when I was running the last scanning program in normal boot mode, from the logs does it look like the virus has cleared up? Is there any posibility that a keylogger could still be on the machine as I was warned that the virus installs one so that it can prevent you using windows shortcuts to disable the virus - and I use ebay and paypal and the like so its kinda important to get rid of it.

thanks belahzur

Hello.
All looks good, just these 2 updates to do and if all is running well for you, then you should be free to go.

Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 21.
  • Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u21-windows-i586.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.

Then download and install Adobe Reader 9.3.4
