I have appeared to been infected by AV Security Suites. I am getting a constant string of fake virus alerts and then a random porno website will pop up. I ran super antispyware and it says it found it but did not remove it. Malwarebytes found the HkeyLM files of it and removed them in safe mode but then when i rebooted in normal it was back up again.

Here is my hyjackthis log file:

Hello.

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet Explorer and/or in FireFox.

    In Internet Explorer
  1. Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

    In Firefox
  1. Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"
  2. Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.

Please run OTL.exe.

  • Copy the commands with file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

Ok now I have a new problem. I didn't get to do what you suggested yet because while I was waiting for a reply I ran Spyware Doctor from PCTools. It located 47 Registry Keys that were infected. I hit the repair button and it made me reboot my computer to do so. Now Windows does not go to the desktop either in safe mode or normal mode. I tried last known good configuration and the samething happens. It loads up windows and gets to the welcome screen, it even loads up my desktop wallpaper but no desktop icons load. Then about 30 seconds later it goes back to my user selection screen and when I click on the user or admin it starts to load windows but then immediately says closing network connections and goes back to the windows log in screen.

Any ideas?

I think what might be the problem is that the spyware scan removed a registry file that it shouldnt have. Would using the windows recovery and copying and deleteing the registry files allow me to at least get back into Windows and make it past the welcome screen? Its not like it pops up with an error message for me it just logs into my windows destop shows me my desktop background and then it takes me back to the windows welcome screen for me to choose admin or my usernames. When I click on the username it attempts very briefly to get into windows then it immediately says closing network connections as if shutting down but never does shut down.

Please help

Essentially type in the recovery console:

md tmp
copy c:windowssystem32configsystem c:windowstmpsystem.bak
copy c:windowssystem32configsoftware c:windowstmpsoftware.bak
copy c:windowssystem32configsam c:windowstmpsam.bak
copy c:windowssystem32configsecurity c:windowstmpsecurity.bak
copy c:windowssystem32configdefault c:windowstmpdefault.bak

delete c:windowssystem32configsystem
delete c:windowssystem32configsoftware
delete c:windowssystem32configsam
delete c:windowssystem32configsecurity
delete c:windowssystem32configdefault

copy c:windowsrepairsystem c:windowssystem32configsystem
copy c:windowsrepairsoftware c:windowssystem32configsoftware
copy c:windowsrepairsam c:windowssystem32configsam
copy c:windowsrepairsecurity c:windowssystem32configsecurity
copy c:windowsrepairdefault c:windowssystem32configdefault

Do you think that this would work?

New error when I boot up now says that my windows/system32/config/system file is missing. I have seen this before in the past and know that the recovery console is a good tool to you use to get this resolved. however, when i copy the file it says it can't find the specified file. Any suggestions?

descriptionAV Security Suites EmptyRe: AV Security Suites

Ok now my computer must be possessed. I was at least getting the error message letting me know what was wrong and why windows wasn't booting. However, when I did the steps on Microsoft on how to fix a missing system32/config/system file it said the file speicified can't be found. So I exited out of the recovery console and tried a last ditch effort on last known good configuration. The error message didn't pop up and windows acted like it was about to load with the windows xp logo and the progress bar scrolling then it goes to a black screen and and error message comes up that says:

"When trying to update a password, this return satus indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct." Then it gives me an option to click OK but the message only stays up for about 5 seconds then my computer restarts.

So I tried to get back into the recovery console and now it asks me for an admin password which I never set on this computer.

At this point I am thinking of slaving the drive and coping over my info and then fully wiping it but I would hope that is my last resort.
